Wow. It’s amazing how far we’ve climbed up the rankings and how quickly we did it.

And I think we’re not pulling full advantage right now because of summer heat.

Love that factory fresh aluminum. But this may have been the best-looking B-17 (technically an XB-38).

Man this is awesome - I’m seriously impressed with how team Oppo has performed!

All I can say is you must have one heck of a rig!

Definitely not. Number of members is 157 , down from ~190 when we were at 315 or so. I have to turn my F@H off during the heat of the day. Takes me from ~220k PPD down to <100k. :( Oh well. Congratulations to us for trying the help save the world.

I think come Fall, we ought to be able to throw some more coal on the fire.

There were a bunch of folks whose computers almost melted returning one Work Unit. They’ve fallen off. I just had a note from one guy who is 2M - 3M PPD who is shut down right now because it’s hot and he’s paying for AC and running a couple of space heaters in his office doesn’t make sense. Come Autumn... What I wonder is whether we can make it into the top 100 teams. We need a lot more points for that...

Eury’s the impressive one.  I can put down about 2.5 million PPD a day over two machines and 3 GPUs when it’s cool but that’s too much heat for now so I’m running on one GPU in my basement.

That’s still crazy.  I think I’d be hard pressed to get 500,000 PPD.

It’s all about the modern GPUs - they calculate things like this way better than almost anyone.

I’m running a RX 5700 which puts down about 1 million PPD, an RX 5700 XT which puts down like 1.2 million PPD and a GTX 1050 that puts down like 200k PPD.

I’m also a former crypto miner so I’ve got a leg up as I’ve been managing GPU compute clusters on and off since 2013.

I finally had to replace my aging Core i7 920 about a month ago. It was getting too unreliable to use for work. I bought a used R9 290 from a coworker, and so far it has done everything I’ve asked of it. For $60 CAD, I’m definitely not complaining.

Edit: new CPU is a Ryzen 3600.

That’s the cpu in my main desktop and I love it.

Those old AMD Tahiti GPUs aren’t efficient but they were compute monsters. They fueled most of the first 2 years of crypto mining. I had a room full of them at one point.

I don’t own any games more recent than Skyrim, so I really don’t need a monster of a GPU.

So far definitely no complaints about the CPU. It’s my first time going with an AMD unit, and it’s definitely faster than what it replaced.

You say “old” GPUs, and I chuckle.  Prior to this, I was running a hand-me-down Radeon 6950 that a coworker gave me, and prior to that (so about a year ago), I was still running a Radeon 5770.  Neither of them were fast enough to complete a GPU work unit before they’d somehow get killed off, so I hadn’t started running GPU work units until I got the new machine.  Definitely a massive speed bump.

The r9 was released 7 years ago, still a competent unit for mid level settings at 1080 on most games.

Im a pretty light gamer, playing mostly old older strategy games like Age of Empires, CIV games, CS GO and World of Tanks. They're all pretty easy but have a big 1440p monitor so I upgraded last year from a GTX 1060.
